The Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) Twenty-Fourth Annual Conference
Phoenix, AZ February 6-8, 2020
The Twenty-Fourth Annual Conference will be held at the Sheraton Grand Phoenix Hotel in Phoenix, AZ. The conference guestroom rate is $209/night for a room with single or double occupancy. Note that all conference activities are at the Sheraton Grand Phoenix Hotel.
Information about transportation from Phoenix International Airport (airport code PHX) will be on the AMTE website in January.
Program information will be updated over the next few weeks and a final program will be posted in January.

Conference Highlights
Thursday – February 6th
Coffee and tea will be served near the Opening Session beginning at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast is on your own and there are several options both in and around the hotel. Lunch will be provided and light snacks will be available during the afternoon break; these are included in the registration fee. Dinner is on your own.
Session highlights

The Opening Session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will feature a panel presentation from Kathryn Chval, University of Missouri, Carlos Nicolas Gomez, Clemson University, and Mike Steele, AMTE President, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The title of this presentation is "Looking Down the AMTE Road."
- This year's recipient of the Excellence in Scholarship Award, AnnaMarie Conner, University of Geogria, will present a session titled, "Teacher Support for Argumentation: An Examination of Beliefs and Practice."
Friday – February 7th
Breakfast, lunch, and light snacks during the afternoon break will be provided and are included with the registration fee. An all-conference reception will follow the Jacobs Lecture. Dinner is on your own.
This year’s annual AMTE Advocacy and Emerging Issues Breakfast will feature two groups who have engaged in advocacy work with teachers and communities: The Mathematical Modeling with Cultural and Community Contexts (M2C3) group and the Examining the Trajectories of Black Mathematics Teachers project. Everyone is welcome, including those who are experienced with advocacy, those just starting out, and those who are wondering why they would even want to consider engaging in this work. More details are provided in the Emerging Issue Committee's article included in this issue of Connections.
Session highlights
- More than 20 posters will be shared at the AMTE Poster Session from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
- Beginning at 5:00 p.m., the Judith Jacobs Lecture will be given by Paola Sztajn, Professor of Mathematics Education at North Carolina State University. The title of her presentation is "Research and Mathematics Teacher Education: Triumphs, Trials, and Transitions.
Saturday – February 8th
Breakfast and lunch are included with the registration fees. Members of AMTE affiliates will meet during breakfast.
Session highlights
- Last year's Early Career Award Recipient, Christopher C. Jett, University of West Georgia will present a session titled, "Supporting African American Male Mathematics Students: MTEs' High-impact Practices."
- The AMTE Business Meeting will be held during lunch.
