Eugene Lang College for Liberal Arts, an undergraduate college of The New School, invites applications to fill a one-year, fixed-term Assistant Professor position of Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning beginning in July 2021 in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics department.

We are especially interested in applicants who will successfully cultivate a positive learning environment within diverse groups of students and be aware of the unique assets and challenges of an urban teaching and learning environment. This includes but is not limited to diversity in race/ethnicity, LGBTQ status, gender identity, socioeconomic status, familial education background, permanent residence (e.g., international, domestic, local), and career trajectories. They will also be able to adapt course material for students in various academic programs (e.g., liberal arts, design) and majors. The successful candidate will also show evidence of their dedication to inclusive learning environments and inter-and multi-disciplinary learning for social good.
The New School, a private university in New York City’s Greenwich Village, serves undergraduate and graduate students across a range of fields with a commitment to bringing practices in design and social research to studying issues of our time and challenging students to become engaged citizens dedicated to solving programs and contributing to the public good.

Responsibilities include teaching seven undergraduate Quantitative Reasoning and Statistics courses annually or equivalent.

Qualifications: A graduate degree (master’s level or higher) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or a related quantitative field (perhaps in the social sciences) is required by the hire date. Preference may be given to candidates with prior teaching experience, preferably in the liberal arts context.
