Annual Conference: Know Before You Go

Information participants might find useful as they prepare for the 2023 AMTE Annual Conference in New Orleans is listed below. We hope to see you there!

Health and Safety Protocols

  • While masks are not required, we ask that you respect individual needs. We will have red, yellow, and green dots for name tags to indicate your comfort level in interactions with others.
  • Please bring a mask with you to the conference. There will be some masks available at the registration desk if you need one.
  • There will be an option to take food to your room if you prefer not to eat in the dining space.
  • If a presenter would like all session attendees to wear a mask, there will be a sign and slide available to communicate this with participants. Please be respectful of their request.
  • Please test for Covid before you come and pack a test. Should you test positive while at the conference, please let us know so we can bring meals to your room.

New Opportunities/ Schedule Changes

  • There will be two presidential panels, which provide an opportunity to interact with presidents of various mathematics education organizations.
  • What was formerly the Advocacy Breakfast will now take place Thursday at lunch.
  • The AMTE Affiliate Breakfast will be on Friday morning. There will be tables for those not involved in local affiliates.
  • The Business meeting will be Friday during lunch.
  • Saturday’s lunch will provide an opportunity for members to discuss and share ways AMTE can continue working towards our long-term goals and the mission of AMTE.
  • The Opening Session and Judith Jacobs Lecture will be recorded and will be available to AMTE members on the website after the conference for those who wish to hear these sessions again and for those unable to attend.

Inclusive Spaces: While we hope you find inclusive spaces throughout the conference venue, there are some specific spaces we want to highlight. See the app for the exact location and details about each of the available facilities listed below.

  • A meditation/ prayer room
  • A caregiver room
  • Gender inclusive bathrooms
  • Other requests/needs specified on the registration form will be addressed on an individual basis
  • If you experience discrimination or harrassment in the context of an AMTE activity, we ask that you report it at: https://amte.net/form/report. This will be shared with the president, executive director, and the president-elect. More information about how a report is handled is described at the bottom of the form, but confidentiality and discretion will be maintained as much as possible to address the incident.

Equity and Advocacy Steps AMTE Takes

  • Nametags will display pronouns from the individual's registration form.

  • There will be an advocacy table with resources and information about local advocacy groups.
  • We will have an advocacy luncheon on Thursday for all attendees. Local education advocacy groups will share about their organizations.
  • The Second Annual AMTE Reception for BIPOC Scholars will be February 1, 2023 8-9pm. If you identify as a a BIPOC Scholar and have not registered, please complete the form at the following link so you can receive more detailed location information closer to the conference.
  • In lieu of swag, many participants donated to Our Voice Nuestra Voz (ovnv.org), a New Orleans Education Nonprofit. Information about the total amount donated will be shared after the conference.
  • A list of local BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ businesses that you can support while in New Orleans will be provided.
