Dr. Michelle Stephan (she/her) is a professor of mathematics education with a joint appointment in the Department of Middle, Secondary and K12 Education and the Department of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has been a mathematics education researcher since 1998 and took a seven year hiatus to teach middle school. Her research involves classroom based design research as well as design based implementation research at scale. Her classroom research projects explore the teaching and learning of ethical reasoning in K-12 STEM courses. Her DBIR project is a research practice partnership to investigate instructional visions within a statewide educational system and partners' roles in collaborative design, adoption & adaptation, and uses of professional learning resources.
