AMTEC (Connecticut)

The Connecticut chapter of AMTEC (Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators in Connecticut) held its annual spring conference and business meeting on March 25, 2022, which featured presentations focused on the theme Moving Mathematics Education Forward: Identity, Programming, and Systems. The virtual meeting featured presentations from AMTEC executive board members and local district leaders along with rich breakout discussions. Conversation focused on the central pillars of the document Equity in Mathematics Education: A Joint Position Statement for Connecticut. This new position statement was authored through collaboration between AMTEC and the other two mathematics leadership organizations in the state, CCLM (Connecticut Council of Leaders of Mathematics) and ATOMIC (Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Connecticut) - oth also affiliates of national organizations. We look forward to publishing the document soon so that it is available to educators across the state. Additionally, AMTEC held elections for its executive board. Our board now includes the following: President Jillian Cavanna (University of Hartford), Vice President Elizabeth Salgado (Naugatuck Valley Community College), Treasurer Maria Mitchell (Central CT State University), Secretary Leah Frazee (Central CT State University), and Board Members Lindsay Keazer (Sacred Heart University), Younhee Lee (Souther CT State University), Ekaterina Lioutikova (University of Saint Joseph), and Jennifer Phaiah (Sacred Heart University).

VA-AMTE (Virginia)

Greetings from the Commonwealth of Virginia. During Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters, the board met regularly to plan for our Fall Research Symposium, revisit the Va-AMTE goals, and the AMTE 2024 Goals and our Constitution. The Fall Research Symposium, Exchanging Mathematics Ideas, on October 8, 2022 with new strands aligned to better support student learning. Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) will host the event.  The Symposium will include a membership meeting to update members on the organization with an open discussion. We are planning a spring 2023 symposium to better serve mathematics educators as they help their graduate students prepare for their master defense or doctoral defense. VA-AMTE is 5 years old and this summer we will revisit our mission, goals, and our roles to ensure we meet our memberships’ needs. Please visit our webpage, https://sites.google.com/view/va-amte/home, for dates, times and locations for our Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Symposiums.
