AMTEC (Connecticut)
AMTEC has been engaged in a few new activities this year, and we’re looking forward to 2021-2022 ahead. We had a successful Business Meeting and half-day conference in March, switching up the usual keynote for a series of ignite-type talks to offer members exposure to a range of topics followed by in-depth discussion of one. We’re grateful to all our presenters and give a special shout-out here to Michelle Stefan of UNC-Charlotte and AMTE-NC for her talk on advocacy. In the past few months, we’ve moved forward with a subcommittee focused on recruitment. We’ve connected with Get The Facts Out and done a training so we can begin to reach out to various stakeholders at our own institutions and beyond. In August, we hosted our first Preservice Teacher conference. We wanted to better support and connect our preservice teachers and offer them a conference experience. In the future, we plan to have our preservice teachers take more leadership roles in organizing what we hope will be an annual conference. IMTE (Illinois)
The Illinois Math Teacher Educators (IMTE) were excited to celebrate their 20th year as an organization this past July with a half-day virtual conference. The conference focused on two main topics: (1) Discussing ideas connected to the Illinois State Board of Education’s new Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards, and (2) technology integration into math methods classes. Six different presenters shared about their work related to these topics and break-out rooms were used after each topic for participants to reflect on and discuss these issues in relation to their own work contexts. We were honored to have Rochelle Gutiérrez from the University of Illinois as one of our featured presenters, as well as five other teacher educators from within Illinois.
HAMTE (Indiana)
The Indiana chapter of AMTE, HAMTE – Hoosier Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, celebrated our tenth anniversary this summer. We had approximately 20 members who virtually attended at least part of the half day event. We were all excited to “see” each other again and celebrate that HAMTE continued to survive and thrive even during these difficult times. Jill Newton (Purdue University) reminded us that it is not the numbers or size of our membership that matters, but the sense of community and shared work that is important.
During the meeting, we realized that there were three main areas of concern or interest that we could work together on. The first issue is that emergency licensures in Indiana for secondary math teachers outnumber that of regular licensures. This is a trend that started before the pandemic and a taskforce was formed to further investigate the data and reach out to the Indiana Department of Education and principals throughout the state to get a better picture of both the causes and individuals receiving the emergency licensures. The second issue is to create a database of the programs around the state for elementary math courses, middle school math programs, and secondary math programs. We hope that this will help us collaborate and share resources to lighten all of our workloads as well as increase the quality of our courses statewide. The third issue we discussed was collaborating with graduate students around the state, particularly graduate students at R1 institutions. Having graduate students work with professors at non-R1 universities to analyze existing data and co-author papers would help institutions across the state and increase collaboration opportunities.

AMTE-NC (North Carolina)
The North Carolina Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators [AMTE-NC] affiliate hosted our fourth annual Back to School Event on August 11th. We had approximately 30 members from across the state come together for a half day virtual mini-conference. This year’s opening session was focused on resetting for the 2021-2022 school year. We had a wonderful lineup of speakers to jump start our discussions for the day: Lydia Allen (Walter M. Williams High School), Aaron Ideus (Chapel Hill High School), Leigh Belford (East Carolina University), Madeline Craft (Gibsonville Elementary), and Nicholas Kochmanski (University of North Carolina and Greensboro). The panelists shared what they learned about the teaching and learning of mathematics throughout the pandemic and what lessons they will take with them as we move into a new school year. We followed this session up with breakout sessions in which the discussion was continued with a focus on identifying actions each of us might take in our own work this semester. These discussions were focused around contexts such as community partnerships, methods courses, policy, and supervision/coaching. We ended the meeting sharing our plans for the fall to gather at the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics state conference for our fall meeting and preservice teacher poster session.
PAMTE (Pennsylvania)
The Pennsylvania Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators met additional times during the 2020-2021 academic year. The goals of the additional meetings were to share remote teaching ideas and to stay connected with one another as all of us navigated these challenging and uncertain times. On May 12, 2021 we convened virtually for our annual symposium with a theme of Equitable Pathways. The symposium was a success with our keynote being Mike Steele, AMTE’s past president, and about 15 presentations overall. In March we held elections for treasurer, president-elect, and member at large-private. We are pleased to welcome James Preston as our treasurer, Jodie Styers as president-elect, and Carol Buckley as member-at-large (private). For fall 2021, we are looking forward to Pre-Service Teacher Day, an event we sponsor annually. On November 6, 2021, pre-service teachers from all over Pennsylvania will enjoy a one-day conference at either Millersville University or Duquesne University.
VA-AMTE (Virginia)
The Virginia Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators is growing as we welcome all mathematics teacher educators in Virginia. We held our 2020 Research Symposium virtually in October 2020 in which the response was encouraging and the sessions informative. We combined this with our annual business meeting in which we selected new board members, who began their term on August 1, 2021. The board met several times during the year as we began to focus our attention on four major goals: 1) Our Research Symposium, 2) Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI), 3) new website development and 4) membership growth.
The 2021 Va-AMTE Research Symposium will be October 2, 2021 from 10am - 1pm. The location will be James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA and attendance and speakers will be able to choose from a virtual or face to face attendance. The theme is Back to the Future with Lessons Learned. We encourage all mathematics educators to attend this conference. The Virginia Mathematics Pathways Initiative (VMPI) is a joint initiative of the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The goal is to consider ways to enhance math instruction in K-12 to prepare students for life and position them for success in their post-secondary pursuits. This year we plan to have a special meeting with the VDOE for mathematics educators to learn if or how much these changes impact preservice teacher preparation.
Our third and fourth goals, developing a new website and growing our membership is currently underway.

AMTE-TX (Texas)
Howdy from the AMTE Texas Affiliate! We have been a busy organization this year. We have missed seeing our colleagues in person immensely this year and hope that everyone is in good health.
We are hosting a virtual conference on September 18, 2021, which is open to all anyone. Registration will open late summer and will be available on our organization page under the events tab (https://amte-tx.com/events-calendar/). The theme for the 2021 Fall Conference is "Revealing and Reframing: Building Towards a More Equitable Future for PK-12 Teacher Preparation". Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Alejandro Sorto from Texas State University. Dr. Sorto is an NSF CAREER Award recipient and has worked internationally with several south American institutions in an effort to improve teachers' mathematics preparation and the development of national standards.
During the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, we held monthly “TeaTime” sessions on Fridays. These sessions were meant to provide collegial support for our organization and was open to any others who wished to join. In addition to providing much needed connections during quarantines and stay at home orders, we structured the talk around selected topics. At our final TeaTime, Friday, June 11, we discussed opportunities and tips for publishing in Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education in Texas (JMTET), our official AMTE-Tx online journal. The journal is totally online and can be accessed via our website: https://amte-tx.com/online-journal-2/.
In February, we enjoyed putting together a virtual greeting for the Affiliate Roll Call at this year’s AMTE National Conference.
