Assistant Professor - Mathematics Education
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position in Mathematics Education at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2020.

Qualifications
Qualifications include an earned doctorate in mathematics education and master’s degree or equivalent in mathematics from accredited institutions. Public school secondary teaching experience and/or licensure in mathematics are strongly desirable. Applicants should have evidence of a research agenda in mathematics education, interest in working in the secondary mathematics education program, and the willingness and capability to teach courses in the online MA program in mathematics.

Responsibilities
The duties of this position include teaching courses specifically designed for pre-service and in-service elementary, middle, and secondary teachers; establishing and maintaining an active program of scholarship; and participating in service activities. The standard teaching load is 3 courses in the Fall, and 3 courses in the Spring. Teaching responsibilities may include on-campus, off-campus, and online assignments. The candidate must maintain office hours to advise and work with students, collaborate with faculty, participate in program initiatives (i.e., program coordination, assessment/accreditation, outreach, student recruiting/retention), attend meetings, and plan/develop courses including professional development. Activities such as facilitating professional development for teachers and seeking external funded projects are encouraged and rewarded. Participation in scholarship, research, professional societies, and service activities is required.

The Department and University
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics consists of 29 tenured or tenure-track faculty in mathematics, mathematics education and statistics as well as more than 20 full- and part-time non-tenure track faculty.  The department offers BA and BS degrees in Mathematics.

Prospective high school teachers choose secondary education as their minor. The department also offers MS degrees in Mathematics and Statistics, as well as the MA in mathematics.  The latter degree focuses on preparing graduates to teach undergraduate mathematics at the community college level and/or preparing inservice secondary mathematics teachers for positions of leadership in school districts or to gain the credentials needed for teaching dual-credit classes. The department currently has approximately 200 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students.
