AMTE would like to thank the AMTE/NCSM Joint Task Force on Formative Assessment for their work over the past few years. In an effort to increase teachers’ use of formative assessment strategies in U.S. classrooms, AMTE and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) collaborated to promote connecting formative assessment to other aspects of effective mathematics teaching. Committee members presented at conferences providing examples of how formative assessment can be blended into other mathematics education frameworks, published a joint formative assessment position statement and an article in the NCSM Journal, convened an expert panel to explore strategies to integrate into other mathematics education frameworks (e.g., Cognitively Guided Instruction, the Mathematics Tasks Framework, and Culturally Responsive Teaching), and supported the development and distribution of the Jump Start to Formative Assessment Kit. Most recently, the Committee received acceptance for a book proposal from NCTM focused on integrating formative assessment into mathematics education frameworks. The committee was co-chaired by Valerie Mills and Edward Silver. Committee members included: Wanda Audrict, Megan Burton, Marge Petit, and Marilyn Strutchens.
