Information about recent happenings for a few of our AMTE Affiliates.

CAMTE:

California Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (CAMTE) is hard at work expanding our ability to serve our members. A sample of this work is given below:

  • CAMTE’s Advocacy Committee is working on issues related to the preparation of middle school mathematics teachers.
  • CAMTE’s Membership Committee is planning Meet and Greets across the state. One has already occurred at Cal Poly Pomona in May and another is planned for Indio at the County Office of Education in October.
  • CAMTE’s Conference Committee is putting together a slate of speakers for the CAMTE strand at both the California Mathematics Council (CMC) South’s conference in Palm Springs November 6-7, 2015, and at CMC North’s Conference at Asilomar December 11-13, 2015.
  • CAMTE’s Nominations and Elections Committee is working on producing a slate of candidates for the positions of President, Secretary, and Member at Large for our next election this November. Nominations are due by October 16.
  • CAMTE’s Common Core Committees are working on the mathematics teacher education groups at state colleges across California and on professional development around Peg Smith and Mary Kay Stein’s 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions.

HAMTE:

We had a great group of Hoosier Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (HAMTE) members attending the AMTE Annual Conference in Florida in mid February. We also had a successful IMERS Research Symposium in Indianapolis at the end of March. Our next business meeting will be on Sunday October 4, 2015, during the ICTM annual meeting in Indianapolis. As in the past, we will have a strand for HAMTE sessions in conjunction with the ICTM annual meeting.

We are excited about our new partnership with the Chinese Education Connection to offer 10 Indiana elementary teachers the opportunity to improve their STEM skills traveling to China in the Fall. If this proves to be a successful partnership, we plan to extend this program to include pre-service teachers and math education graduate students in future years.

NJAMTE:

PAMTE:

The 9th Annual Pennsylvania Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (PAMTE) Symposium was held at Shippensburg University on May 13-14, 2015, with 29 persons attending. AMTE President Christine Thomas gave the keynote presentation and co-led a Presidents’ Roundtable session at the Symposium. The two-day program included scholarly presentations, roundtable conversations, book discussions, and graduate student presentations – all presented and facilitated by PAMTE members. A special session, describing the STaR program for new colleagues, was presented by several of Pennsylvania’s STaR Fellows.

At its annual business meeting, PAMTE voted to sponsor its second STaR fellowship and voted to co-sponsor the Pre-service Teacher Day to be held on August 14, 2015, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics summer meeting. Election results were announced, with President-elect Kate Remillard (St. Francis University) and reelected board members Jim Preston (Treasurer; Slippery Rock University) and Cynthia Taylor (Millersville University) assuming their roles at the conclusion of the meeting. Appreciation was expressed to Janet White (Past-president; Millersville University) for her leadership and service. A complete list of PAMTE officers can be found at the PAMTE website (www.pamte.org).

Membership applications for the 2015-2016 year (May 2015 - May 2016) can also be found at the PAMTE website.
