The Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in mathematics education was established in 2002.  The program has a core curricular emphasis in urban education that is required of all students.  Students complete a specialization core of 24 hours, 15 hours of research, 12 hours in urban education and 9 hours of dissertation related coursework.  Other areas of specialization include urban education, reading education, English education, and teaching English as a second language.
