The Ph.D. program in STEM Education at UMass Dartmouth is a signature program that offers concentration areas in Mathematics Education (and Science Education). The program is designed to develop scholars who are expert in current, innovative research practices and who have been well-prepared for diverse careers in higher education, research institutions, or industrial settings that are focused on improving educational attainment in mathematics, science, or other STEM-related subjects.
The program builds on the success of strong faculty research programs, particularly those situated in the Kaput Center for Research and Innovation in STEM Education. A tight integration of curriculum and research links the programs to the Kaput Center, thus providing critical authentic learning experiences through center internships, as well as externships with other academic insitutions and non-academic partners. In this way, teh program addresses key contemporary educational challenges, offering future mathematics educators advanced training and experience.
