Dr. Kelley Buchheister is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Mathematics Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). She is a former elementary and early childhood classroom teacher and earned a Ph.D. in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum (Mathematics Education) at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2011. Kelley's research and teaching focus on enhancing children’s thinking and reasoning in early mathematics by developing practicing and prospective teachers’ construction of appropriately challenging environments that provide the greatest opportunity for all children to achieve high quality, integrated experiences in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. In this work, Kelley advocates for innovative uses of technology that encourage young children's development in problem solving, representation, and communication. As a teacher educator, Kelley also emphasizes the cultural contexts of learning, prioritizing equity and children's funds of knowledge as critical components of early educational experiences.
