Biography
Patty Morrison-Manning has been teaching for 27 years. Upon graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1989, she began her teaching career as a first grade teacher in Jasper County, South Carolina. After a year, she crossed the border to teach in Savannah Chatham County Public Schools in Savannah, GA for 4 years. In the first five years, she taught first, fifth, sixth and eighth grades. Her next teaching assignment took her to Broward County, Florida where she looped from first to second grades for 4 years. She then took a job teaching third grade in Palm Beach County, Florida. This position led her to her love of elementary math by becoming the Math/Technology Coach. Upon returning north, she taught first and third grades in Austintown Local Schools in Austintown, Ohio. She is currently serving as the K-2 Instructional Math Coach for her district.
Throughout her career, Patty has had multiple opportunities for professional development. In 2009, she completed and became a National Board Certified Teacher as an Early Childhood Generalist. In addition, she studied instructional math through the iDiscovery program at Miami University of Ohio, as a participant and a facilitator. The iDiscovery program has continued to develop a strong passion for the philosophy of teaching math to young children using a conceptual approach. This extensive training has led her to pursue coursework to become an Elementary Math Specialist.
The next step in her career is to begin her coursework at Mizzou Online at the University of Missouri. Patty is truly humbled and honored to receive the Elementary Mathematics Specialist Scholarship and would like to thank the AMTE for this opportunity.
