Communication from the AMTE Board of Directors

As we approach the end of Shari Stockero’s term as our Executive Director, we would like to thank her for her service and dedication. Under her leadership our organization made tremendous progress on what we have accomplished; we have grown our membership, improved our procedures, and expanded our programming. We especially appreciate her work and guidance through the pandemic when we had to transition to a virtual conference. Her term ends with the 2024 conference.

Given the increased time and demands of the Executive Director position linked to our growing organization, after vetting several options the AMTE Board has decided to employ the services of Civica Associations Conferences and Exhibitions to manage the operation of AMTE. A representative of Civica, Kim Gill, will serve as Executive Director for an initial 27-month term. Civica manages 17 professional non-profit organizations, including NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education, and brings a great deal of knowledge and experience that we believe will be beneficial to AMTE. The AMTE Board was impressed by the portfolio of services that will be provided, and we are confident that Civica has a robust understanding of how to support and grow organizations in mathematics education.

We are excited to begin this new partnership that will further strengthen AMTE. We have a transition team in place to support Civica and anticipate Kim Gill will take on the responsibilities of Executive Director at the conclusion of the 2024 conference, which coincides with the conclusion of Shari Stockero’s term. Civica’s primary responsibility will be the logistical and managerial aspects of AMTE to support the mission and goals set forth by the Board. We want to assure our membership that the AMTE Board will continue to guide the direction of our organization through its expertise in research and practices for mathematics teacher education. Our mission, to promote the improvement of mathematics teacher education, PK-12, remains unchanged.

Again, we want to thank Shari for her years of service during a challenging time and look forward to this new relationship with Civica.
