Special Call for Connections Manuscripts: Voices from the Field

The Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators' publication Connections is seeking brief manuscripts from a variety of voices, including mathematics teacher educators, mathematics coaches, K-12 mathematics teachers, and others, related to field experiences of mathematics teacher education during this time of COVID-19. Field experiences are broadly considered as clinical experiences in PreK-12 schools. Mathematics teacher education is broadly considered as initial teacher preparation and both the continuing education and professional development of practicing teachers. Given the differing impacts of and responses to COVID-19 in states, universities, and PreK-12 schools, this exchange of ideas allows us to learn from one another in varying contexts in a timely way.

Connections is interested in pieces that describe and reflect on current challenges, responses, and/or lessons learned related to field experiences in mathematics teacher education during the current health crisis. There are many relevant topics. Possible topics include:  

  • Program adjustments and/or changes in course assignments and the impact on teacher candidates’ field experiences
  • Navigation of the myriad of online resources and tools available
  • Teacher candidates’ preparation and/or use of technology for virtual instruction in the field
  • Impacts upon mathematics coaches and changes in how they perform their work
  • Impacts upon university supervisors, university instructors, and/or mentor  teachers and changes in how they perform their work.

Manuscript submissions should be no longer than 6 pages (double-spaced, Times 12-point font) of text or 1,400 words (including references and figures/tables) and sent electronically as a Word File to the Connections Editor (Susan Swars Auslander, sauslander@gsu.edu) for a blind review by at least two members of the Connections Editorial Panel. For ease of reading by reviewers, all figures and tables should be embedded in the correct locations in the text. All manuscripts should be formatted according to the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition).

Manuscript submissions received by October 26, 2020 will be considered for the upcoming Winter 2020 issue. Manuscript submissions received after this date may need to be considered for the Spring 2021 issue.
