The Emerging Issues Committee is once again hosting an Advocacy and Emerging Issues Breakfast at the annual conference. Everyone is welcome! This year’s breakfast will take place on Friday morning and will feature three panelists who have engaged in advocacy at different levels:
- Advocacy for a Teacher Preparation Program featuring Denise Spangler, Dean, College of Education, University of Georgia;
- Advocacy for Their Own Work featuring Luis Leyva, Assistant Professor, Vanderbilt University; and,
- Advocacy on Behalf of an Education Organization featuring Robert Berry, President of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Professor, University of Virginia.
Panelists will share their ideas about why advocacy is important in their work, what it means to be an advocate, and how one ‘does advocacy’ in mathematics education.
After the breakfast, engage in roundtable discussions with the breakfast panelists at the session Advocacy: It’s not Just for Breakfast Any More.
