Online Graduate Course on Teaching and Learning Statistics

In Spring 2017 (Jan 9-April 26), the following graduate course will be taught by Dr. Hollylynne Lee at NC State completely online.  The course is cross listed as a statistics and mathematics education course.

EMS/ST 519 Teaching and Learning Statistical Thinking    3 graduate credits

The course is intended for anyone interested in understanding learning and pedagogy with statistical ideas taught from middle grades through any intro level college course. See syllabus. I routinely have students enrolled in the course across disciplines (mathematics education, instructional technology, educational policy, statistics, forestry, food science, social sciences). I even occasionally have advanced undergraduates take the course! It makes for a great environment to consider implications of learning and teaching statistics more broadly!

NC State uses Moodle for the LMS platform, and Blackboard Collaborate for the synchronous meetings. Because it is online, students can register for the course from anywhere!! For those outside of state, they can enroll by becoming a non-degree seeking student ($35 fee) and paying the distance education tuition cost (about $3000 for a 3 hr class for out of state students).

The catalog descriptions and registration links are:

Typically students pursuing an education degree enroll EMS 519, and students enrolled in any other discipline, or wanting to use the course as a mathematical science course, enroll in ST 519. For students interested in enrolling, the dates and times for the online synchronous meetings are
