The University of Pikeville is seeking applicants for a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment in the field of Mathematics starting August 2019.  The focus of the position will be to provide dynamic teaching and leadership for the University’s Mathematics program.  The University has initiated a project to rethink and reshape the mathematics curriculum for both majors and non-majors.  The emphasis of this project is student success in mathematics at all levels.  The faculty member hired is expected to fully participate in this project, to bring new ideas and creativity to the project, and to ultimately provide leadership for its implementation.  Rank and salary will be based on qualifications.  Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching in a small university setting and the ability to work effectively with others in a collegial environment dedicated to student learning. 

The successful applicant will be a broadly-trained mathematician with a passion for excellence in teaching.  Teaching responsibilities will include teaching mathematics courses for both majors and non-majors.  Typically, each semester, a faculty member in this position will teach a couple of classes in the first-year mathematics curriculum and will develop and teach two upper-level classes in their field of interest.  While most classes are offered face-to-face, the University does offer classes through other modalities including hybrid and fully online.  Faculty may have part of their teaching load assigned to these other modalities.  The position also requires advising students, providing service to the University community, assisting with departmental activities, and continuing scholarly growth and development.  A doctorate in mathematics or related area is required.  Minimum required English language skills are at the C1 level based on the Common European Language Framework   Undergraduate teaching experience in mathematics is strongly desired.  Applicants with ABD status and within one year of completion will also be considered.
