CalWest's client school, Polytechnic School, in Pasadena, CA, is looking for a Middle School math teaching fellow for the 2019-2020 school year.
Schedule: One-year position beginning September 2019
The Polytechnic Teaching Fellow program, initiated in September 2005, attracts recent college graduates who are interested in a career in education by providing them with meaningful first-year teaching experience, working with motivated and creative students and observing and learning the craft of teaching from senior faculty members.
Responsibilities
The math teaching fellow will work with one or two experienced Middle School teachers and will participate fully in the life of the school. The expectation is that the fellow will move from observation and work with individual students or small groups to responsibility for planning and teaching Middle school math classes on his or her own. The fellow contributes to the extracurricular program by co-facilitating an advisory group, chaperoning Outdoor Education trips, coaching, and coordinating an after-school homework hour for students, etc.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and experience with Middle School students is preferable. A strong background in science and experience in outdoor education, athletics, and tutoring would also be of value. Good technology skills are necessary.
Physical requirements and work environment
- Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts;
- Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time;
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds;
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
