Length of Appointment: July 6 through August 5, 2019 (in Abu Dhabi from July 14 to July 25 and at an assigned global site (Florence, Italy or New York from July 27 to August 5), with attendance at approximately two meetings prior to the program’s start for orientation activities. Dates are subject to change.

Program Overview: The NYUAD Summer Academy is a cross-cultural program designed to enhance the academic profile of highly motivated Emirati high school students about to start their 11th year. The program features intensive instruction in Critical Writing and Thinking, Mathematical Reasoning, Test Preparation, and Leadership Development and Public Speaking over the course of two summers and an intervening academic year. Each summer, students receive approximately three weeks of instruction at the NYUAD campus before traveling to Florence, Italy (1st summer) and New York City (2nd summer) for approximately ten days.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and hone the Math curriculum, which is focused on math foundations for the sciences. Previous courses focused on linear algebra and introductory probability and statistics, taught with an interactive, experiential approach

  • Attend any pre-program meetings and/or training sessions

  • Teach the Math curricula to the Classes of 2019 and 2020 in Abu Dhabi and either New York or Italy

  • Participate in faculty meetings by providing detailed feedback on student progress

  • Work closely with the co-Instructor to ensure that both cohorts receive the same material delivered with a similar high-quality approach

  • Be available to individual students and groups in need of assistance, as well as to other instructor undertaking cross-curricular or collaborative projects

  • Attend and provide assistance as needed with co-curricular events and activities throughout the Program, both in Abu Dhabi and in New York or Italy, which may entail leading small groups of students on excursions and trips, or supporting the operations of the program if necessary

  • Provide students with ongoing and regular feedback (oral and written) during the course of the class

  • Following the summer session,  submit extensive and detailed written feedback on each student to be used in crafting letters of recommendation for their college applications within 30 days

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (masters or PhD) in Math or a related subject

  • Available to travel to Abu Dhabi, and New York or Florence (per individual assignment), during the dates listed above

  • Demonstrated interest in cross-cultural education and enthusiasm for teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Math or related subject

  • College-level teaching in Math

  • Work or internship experience teaching Math, English or other content area to non-native speakers

  • Experience supervising high school students in a co-curricular setting (i.e. summer camp or after school program)

  • Availability to assist with the administration of the program prior to the start of classes in Abu Dhabi

Salary:

A competitive stipend is provided for the summer session. Airfare, housing, and most meals are furnished. This position is part-time and the appointee will not receive any benefits meant for fulltime exempt NYUAD employees.
