The Education Division in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers 10 majors: Early Childhood Education; Special Education; Elementary Education; Middle School Education (General Science; English; Mathematics; History/Political Science) and Secondary Education (Mathematics; English; History/Political Science.) Lesley serves an increasingly diverse student population from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds, including traditional age college students, adult students and students from partnering community college institutions.

Job Description:

The Education Division in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Lesley University is seeking a full-time, nine-month math educator to teach courses in elementary, middle and secondary math education as well as mathematics. We seek a faculty member whose primary identity and focus is math education. Math education courses include: Teaching Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers; Teaching Geometry, Measurement and Data; Teaching Mathematics in Grades 5-12 and Teaching Secondary Mathematics: Exploring Connections. Mathematics courses may include: Patterns and Functions (pre-calculus); Problem Solving and Linear Algebra/Differential Equations.                                                                                                                                            

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teaching courses for undergraduate students in math education.
  • Teaching courses for undergraduate students in mathematics.
  • Supervising student teachers.
  • Advising undergraduate students.
  • Developing teaching-research collaborations with diverse urban schools.
  • Contributing to the development of inclusive curriculum and the cultural competence of Lesley students.
  • Participating in program development, assessment, and review in the Division.
  • Serving on appropriate college and university committees and participating in recruitment and other Division activities.

Requirements:

  • Must have an earned doctorate in mathematics education or curriculum and instruction with a focus in mathematics education or a PhD. in mathematics with a focus on math education by June 30, 2019.
  • Dissertation focus related to mathematics education or significant experience as a math educator.
  • Evidence of potential scholarship.
  • Strong knowledge-base in the area of elementary, middle and secondary math education curriculum and curriculum theory.
  • Ability to teach introductory and intermediate college-level courses in mathematics.
  • Two years of teaching experience at the middle or secondary level in the United States.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, your visa status must allow you to work at Lesley University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the college level.
